Hypnotherapy is a safe, natural, powerful and effective form of treatment for a wide range of conditions. Human beings experience 'trance' as a normal, natural phenomenon. Rather than being unaware during trance, it involves entering an altered state of consciousness, where internal thoughts, feelings, imagination and memories are easier to access. People have described the experience similar to the wonderful place somewhere between being fully awake and being soundly asleep. Even in the deepest trance you remain in full control with an awareness of what is happening. All hypnosis is essentially self hypnosis as no one can be hypnotized that does not want to be. If you do not want to be hypnotized, then even the most skilled hypnotist cannot 'do it to you'. So unless you want to experience hypnosis you will succeed in failing! Hypnosis itself is not a therapy, but a tool. It produces a wonderfully deep state of relaxation that increases the sense of personal well being. The therapy element occurs within trance where the unconscious and the subconscious (emotional) mind is more easily accessible. Then the underlying reasons and root causes of a problem may be identified. This insight leads to an understanding which effects a learning experience and enables positive change. Within trance the unconscious mind is assisted in identifying better alternatives and more appropriate responses to situations that previously may have been negative triggers. Hypnotherapy encompasses a powerful combination of techniques which can deal with symptoms as well as discover original causes and ultimately eradicate the negative unwanted effects.
Can everyone be Hypnotized?
The short answer to this is YES.As trance is a natural state for human beings anyone can be hypnotized. Hypnosis is essentially the induction of the naturally occurring mental state of trance. However, there are some people for whom clinical hypnotherapy is not the most appropriate therapy, e.g. those with hearing difficulties, certain neurological conditions and anyone diagnosed with a psychotic illness. In general terms the more creative and open minded a person is (and some say the more intelligent) the better at trance they tend to be.
